Wi-Fi Network Name (SSID) Not Showing During Setup

Last updated on 24 Feb, 2026

If your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) does not appear when the Phyn App asks you to choose a network, one of the following may be causing the issue:

  • Your Wi-Fi network is offline

  • Your router needs to be rebooted

  • SSID broadcast is disabled in your router settings

  • The 2.4 GHz band is disabled

  • MAC address filtering is enabled

  • The router is using an unsupported Wi-Fi security profile

  • The Phyn device is too far from the router

Below are steps to identify and resolve the issue.

Check if SSID Broadcast Is Disabled

  • Confirm your home Wi-Fi network is turned on

  • Verify other devices can connect to the network

  • Ask the person who set up the router whether SSID broadcast has been disabled

If SSID broadcast is disabled, the Phyn device will not be able to see the network.

Enable SSID broadcast in your router settings and then complete device setup.

Check if the 2.4 GHz Band Is Disabled

Phyn devices connect to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band only.

  • Confirm your home Wi-Fi network is turned on

  • Verify other devices can connect

  • Ask whether the 2.4 GHz band has been disabled

If your router only broadcasts 5 GHz, your network will not appear during setup.

Enable the 2.4 GHz band in your router settings and then complete device setup.

Check for MAC Address Filtering

MAC address filtering limits which devices can connect to your network.

  • Confirm your Wi-Fi network is turned on

  • Ask whether MAC address filtering is enabled

If enabled, you must add the Phyn device’s MAC address to the router’s allowed list. The MAC address is printed on the label included with your device documentation.

After adding the MAC address, complete device setup again.

Check for Unsupported Wi-Fi Security Settings

If your router uses an unsupported Wi-Fi security profile, the network may not appear during setup.

  • Confirm your Wi-Fi network is turned on

  • Ask what security type your router is using

If you need to check it yourself:

  1. Connect a computer to your Wi-Fi network.

  2. Click the Wi-Fi icon in the system tray.

  3. Select your connected network.

  4. Click Properties.

  5. Locate the Security Type field.

If your router is using an unsupported security type, update it to a supported profile and then complete device setup.

Check Wi-Fi Signal Strength

If the network is not visible at the device location, signal strength may be too weak.

To test signal strength:

  1. Go to the location where the Phyn device is installed.

  2. Open Settings > Wi-Fi on a phone or tablet.

  3. Check whether your network appears.

If the network only appears when you move closer to the router, the signal is too weak at the installation location.

If the network appears but:

  • Disappears frequently

  • Shows weak signal bars

The signal strength is insufficient.

To resolve weak signal issues:

  • Move the router closer to the device if possible

  • Install a Wi-Fi range extender

  • For Phyn Plus (1st Generation only), use an external Wi-Fi antenna

In larger homes or homes with basement installations, one or more Wi-Fi range extenders may be required to extend coverage to the device location.
