In the Phyn app, “Overlapping” appears when water is being used by more than one fixture at the same time.
From our observations, nearly 70% of water use events in homes are single uses, meaning only one fixture is running at a time. When multiple fixtures are used simultaneously — for example, a shower running while a toilet is flushed — Phyn may group that activity as “Overlapping.”
What Happens During an Overlapping Event
Phyn identifies the first detected water use event
Additional simultaneous usage may be grouped under “Overlapping”
You can tap on the event in Water Use to view more details
You can provide feedback to help improve identification
Will This Improve Over Time?
Yes.
As Phyn learns from your home’s water patterns and the feedback you provide, it becomes better at identifying individual fixtures within overlapping events.
Providing feedback helps the system:
Improve fixture recognition
Separate simultaneous water uses more accurately
Continue refining performance over time
Overlapping events are a normal part of whole-home water monitoring, and identification accuracy improves as the system learns your unique usage patterns.
