I got a “High Base Pressure” – what does that mean and what should I do? Phyn sends High Base Pressure alerts when the base water pressure is high. A High Base Pressure alert is sent if your average water pressure is higher than 80 psi over the past 24 hour period. High Base Pressure Over time high pressure could compromise your pipes and damage your appliances such as your washing machine and dishwasher.
  • We suggest you get a Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) installed. PRVs can be a key component to maintaining a leak free home.
  • If you have an existing PRV installed the base pressure may need to be adjusted lower.
PRVs moderate the pressure of the city water as it enters your home, greatly reducing your risk of leaks and you will get more longevity from your plumbing system and water-using appliances. Note: When your PRV is installed or the pressure value adjusted to a lower base pressure, the change may take up to 48 hours to appear in the Phyn App. Note: Starting with the 6.7.0 version of the Phyn App which will be released in early November, 2020, the High Base Pressure Alerts will contain the following data points:
  • A graph to display a plotted history of daily Average Water Pressure readings.
  • Green dots on the graph indicate when the Average Water Pressure was in the normal range.
  • Red dots on the graph indicate when the Average Water Pressure was in the High range.
  • First Detected – The day the Phyn Plus first detected the Average Base Pressure was higher than 80 psi over the past 24 hour period.
  • First Detected Average Pressure – The Average Water Pressure that was detected before the Average Base Pressure moved to the “High” range
  • Duration – How many days the Average Base Pressure has been High
  • Resolved – Date when the High Base Pressure condition was resolved
