Is the Phyn Smart Water Sensor compatible with mesh Wi-Fi routers?

Last updated on 31 Jan, 2026

The Phyn Smart Water Sensor is compatible with mesh Wi-Fi routers, but additional configuration may be required. The Sensor operates exclusively on the 2.4 GHz network band. Many mesh Wi-Fi systems broadcast a single SSID that combines both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Because the Sensor requires a stable 2.4 GHz connection, mesh networks that automatically switch between bands may cause pairing issues or unreliable connectivity.

Common Mesh Wi-Fi Routers

  • Google Wi-Fi mesh

  • Google Nest Wi-Fi

  • Google Fiber

  • Eero mesh Wi-Fi

  • Linksys Velop mesh

  • Netgear Orbi mesh

  • TP-Link Deco Whole Home Wi-Fi

  • AmpliFi mesh

  • Plume mesh

  • Ubiquiti Mesh

Troubleshooting Connectivity Issues

Use Separate SSIDs for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz

If your mesh Wi-Fi router supports separate SSIDs, configure individual network names for each band.

  • Example SSIDs: mynetwork-2.4 and mynetwork-5

  • During device pairing, only the 2.4 GHz network will appear

  • Connect the Phyn Smart Water Sensor to the 2.4 GHz network

Use a 2.4 GHz Guest Network

Some mesh routers support a dedicated 2.4 GHz guest network for IoT devices.

  • Create a 2.4 GHz guest network with a unique name such as Guest-2.4

  • Connect the Phyn Smart Water Sensor to the guest network

Temporarily Hide the 5 GHz Network During Pairing

Some mesh systems, such as Eero, allow temporary disabling of the 5 GHz band.

  • The Eero app allows the 5 GHz band to be hidden for 15 minutes

  • Hiding the 5 GHz band can improve initial pairing or re-pairing success

Create an Additional 2.4 GHz SSID

If your mesh router does not allow separating the primary SSID by band, you may be able to create an additional SSID that broadcasts only on 2.4 GHz.

  • For AmpliFi mesh systems, the additional 2.4 GHz SSID must be added to both the router and all mesh points

  • During pairing, only the compatible SSID such as amplifi-2.4 will appear

  • Connect the Phyn Smart Water Sensor to this network

Use an Additional Router or Access Point

If your mesh router does not support separate SSIDs or a 2.4 GHz guest network, you can add a secondary router or access point.

  • Connect the router or access point to your mesh network

  • Configure it to broadcast a new SSID on 2.4 GHz only

  • Connect the Phyn Smart Water Sensor to this SSID
