What is Water Usage Comparison?
Water Usage Comparison lets you compare your household’s water use to other Phyn homes with a similar household size. This feature is available in the Water Use Plus (Beta) section of the Phyn app and helps you understand how your usage stacks up over time.
You can view comparisons in both Monthly and Daily formats.
How it works
Phyn calculates average water usage across homes with the same household size and compares your usage against that average.
If your usage is below average, the comparison value appears in green
If your usage is above average, the comparison value appears in red
Tap the percentage to see a short explanation, such as:
“This month you are using 10% less water than the average 2-person home”
Monthly comparison view
Displays a numeric percentage under Compared to Avg.
Green indicates lower-than-average water use
Red indicates higher-than-average water use
Tapping the percentage explains the comparison in plain language
Note: Every day at midnight, Phyn updates global comparison data using the previous day’s water usage from all Phyn users.
Daily comparison view
From the Monthly view, tap any date to open the Daily view.
Two tabs appear at the top: Gallons and Percentage
The default view is Gallons
Tap Percentage to see how your usage compares to the average for that day
Example daily comparison:

Fixture breakdown (Daily view)
The Daily Percentage view also shows how your water use is divided by fixture type, such as:
Toilet
Shower
Sink
Washing machine
Dishwasher
This helps you understand what is driving your daily water use, not just how much you’re using.
