Plumbing Check alert thresholds

Last updated on 30 Jan, 2026

Plumbing Check uses two measurements to determine whether a leak may be present during a test:

  • Pressure drop (dP)
The total drop in water pressure from the start to the end of the Plumbing Check, measured in psi

  • Estimated leak diameter (dD)
An estimated size of a potential leak, calculated using Phyn’s leak detection algorithm and measured in inches

Normal Plumbing Check thresholds

When you run a Normal Plumbing Check from the app, a Plumbing Check alert is sent if any of the following conditions are met:

  • dD is greater than 0.02 inches, or dP is greater than 25 psi

  • dD is between 0.006 and 0.02 inches and dP is greater than 3 psi

  • dD is less than 0.006 inches and dP is greater than 5.5 psi

Extended Plumbing Check thresholds

When you run an Extended Plumbing Check from the app, a Plumbing Check alert is sent if:

  • dP is greater than 4.5 psi over a 10-minute period

Extended Plumbing Checks run longer and are designed to detect more subtle leaks that may not appear during a standard test.
