Is the Phyn Smart Water Assistant Compatible with Mesh Wi-Fi Routers?

Last updated on 26 Feb, 2026

Yes, the Phyn Smart Water Assistant is compatible with most mesh Wi-Fi systems. However, additional configuration may be required.

The Phyn Smart Water Assistant operates exclusively on a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Many mesh systems broadcast a single network name (SSID) that automatically switches devices between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Because Phyn requires a dedicated 2.4 GHz connection, this can sometimes cause pairing or connectivity issues.

Common Mesh Wi-Fi Systems

  • Google Wi-Fi

  • Google Nest Wi-Fi

  • Google Fiber

  • Eero

  • Linksys Velop

  • Netgear Orbi

  • TP-Link Deco

  • AmpliFi

  • Plume

  • Ubiquiti

Troubleshooting Options

If you are having trouble pairing or maintaining a connection, try one of the following solutions.

Option 1: Create Separate SSIDs for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz

If your mesh router allows it:

  • Create separate network names for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands

  • Name them clearly (for example: mynetwork-2.4 and mynetwork-5)

  • During pairing, select the 2.4 GHz network

The Phyn Smart Water Assistant should connect to the 2.4 GHz SSID only.

Option 2: Use a 2.4 GHz Guest Network

Some mesh systems allow you to create a dedicated 2.4 GHz guest network.

  • Create a guest network set to 2.4 GHz only

  • Give it a unique name (for example: Guest-2.4)

  • Connect the Phyn Smart Water Assistant to this network

Option 3: Temporarily Disable 5 GHz During Pairing

Some systems, such as Eero, allow you to temporarily disable or hide the 5 GHz band.

  • Temporarily disable the 5 GHz band (Eero allows this for 15 minutes)

  • Pair the Phyn Smart Water Assistant while 5 GHz is disabled

  • Re-enable 5 GHz after pairing is complete

This can help ensure the device connects properly to 2.4 GHz during setup.

Option 4: Create an Additional 2.4 GHz SSID

If your mesh router does not allow splitting the main SSID:

  • Create an additional SSID

  • Configure it to broadcast on 2.4 GHz only

  • Connect the Phyn Smart Water Assistant to this new SSID

Note: Some systems, such as AmpliFi, require adding the additional SSID to each mesh point.

Option 5: Add a Separate Access Point

If your mesh system does not support any of the options above:

  • Connect an inexpensive wireless router or access point to your mesh system

  • Configure it to broadcast a new SSID on 2.4 GHz only

  • Connect the Phyn Smart Water Assistant to that network

Important

The Phyn Smart Water Assistant must maintain a stable 2.4 GHz connection. Networks that automatically switch between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz may cause pairing failures or intermittent connectivity.

If you are unsure how to adjust your mesh settings, contact your router manufacturer’s support team for assistance.
