How Offline Leak Protection works
Offline Leak Protection activates when your Phyn Plus is:
Connected to electrical power
Not connected to Wi-Fi or the Phyn Cloud
Loss of Wi-Fi can occur for several reasons, including:
Internet service provider outages
Modem or router hardware failures
Firmware issues with networking equipment
Wireless extenders or repeaters going offline
It is important to restore your Wi-Fi connection as soon as possible so your device can resume full cloud-based monitoring and notifications.
When Offline Leak Protection is enabled and the device is offline, Phyn Plus monitors for catastrophic leaks using a predefined threshold based on:
A high flow rate
A continuous flow duration
If both thresholds are met, Phyn Plus will automatically shut off your water to help prevent major damage.
Important behavior to understand
If a high flow event starts but the flow rate drops below the threshold at any point during the duration window, the water will not be shut off
Leak detection during offline mode is limited to catastrophic leak protection only
Notifications and app access while offline
When Offline Leak Protection is active and the device is offline:
You will not receive in-app push notifications
You will not receive SMS alerts
Once Wi-Fi connectivity is restored, notifications about the shutoff event will be delivered.
Turning water back on after an offline shutoff
If your water is shut off while Offline Leak Protection is active:
You will not be able to turn the water back on using the Phyn App
You must press and hold the blue button on the Phyn Plus device to reopen the valve
Refer to the Phyn Plus shutoff valve operation instructions for detailed guidance.
Appliance and fixture considerations
Water should not be shut off while certain motorized or water-dependent systems are operating. Some fixtures and appliances may be damaged or affected if water is interrupted, including:
Water softeners
Conditioners and acid neutralizers
Reverse osmosis (RO) filters
Whole home filtration systems
Irrigation systems
Before enabling Auto Shutoff or Offline Leak Protection, confirm that your fixtures can safely operate without water and that motors will not be damaged during a shutoff event.
If you are unsure, consult your plumber or fixture manufacturer before enabling these features.
