What types of Wi-Fi security protocols do Phyn devices support?

Last updated on 30 Jan, 2026

Phyn devices work best with WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access II) security. WPA2 has been required on all Wi-Fi CERTIFIED products since 2006 and provides strong protection for home networks.

Phyn devices support connections to Wi-Fi routers configured with the following security protocols:

Supported Wi-Fi security protocols

  • WEP
    Not recommended
Networks using WEP can be easily compromised

  • WPA2 Personal
Also known as WPA2-PSK, PSK2, WPA2-PSK (AES only, not TKIP), WPA2-PSK/AES

  • WPA/WPA2 Personal (Mixed Mode)
    Also known as WPA/WPA2 Mixed mode, WPA/WPA2-PSK, WPA/WPA2 (TKIP/AES), PSK2-Mixed

Important notes

  • Open networks (no security) are not supported

  • Networks configured with legacy WPA-only security are not supported

  • The Wi-Fi Security Alliance strongly recommends upgrading from WEP or WPA to WPA2 Personal or WPA/WPA2 Personal (Mixed mode) for improved security
